Minnie Sampson Maynor (Lumbee) is originally from Lumberton, North Carolina. She migrated to Baltimore after graduating high school. She met her husband, Solomon Maynor (Coharie) when they both lived on Broadway. She has always kept her maiden name because her Sampson people are important to her.

Minnie currently lives by Patterson Park. She likes to walk Eastpoint mall with friends and meet people from other places. She loves to read and loves looking at flowers. She attributes her amazing fashion sense to “Being Minnie” and the fact that she has endless clothing choices in Baltimore where she had none in North Carolina. She just celebrated her 85th birthday.

Minnie wonders if there will still be an Indian community in Baltimore in 10 or 20 years. She would like to see Baltimore’s Indian people have more things that bring them together and the young folks have a deeper interest in who they are.
