Junior Lee Locklear (Lumbee), originally of Shannon, North Carolina, migrated to East Baltimore with his mother and siblings in 1958. Today, he resides in Dundalk, Maryland, with his wife, Rosemarie, who is Italian American. In order to marry Rosemarie in the Catholic Church, Junior had to convert to Catholicism. The couple were very active members of St. Michael Church for decades and volunteered at community functions.
Junior was a foreman at Strescon Industries Incorporated before he went out on disability. A survivor of several major health maladies, he makes it a point to enjoy his life because he says he’s been on borrowed time since 1999, when he was given a life expectancy of 5–10 years. He is 76 years old today and he isn’t scared of anything. He and Rosemarie enjoy going on casino bus trips.
Junior says he has learned to “live with what comes by.” He thinks that the Baltimore Indian community will be fine.
