Lizzie Locklear (Lumbee) age 79 and Maurice Locklear (Lumbee) age 80 reside in Dundalk, Maryland. Maurice is originally from Lumberton and Lizzie is originally from Red Springs, North Carolina. Both migrated to East Baltimore with relatives as teenagers and settled in the part of the city once known as “the reservation.” 

Both are now retired—Maurice from General Motors and Lizzie from Baltimore Box Company. They still keep a garden at their Dundalk home as they’re able. They enjoy going on bus trips to the casino and spend a week at the beach with their kids and grandkids every summer. Maurice occasionally walks Eastpoint Mall with other Lumbee elders. 

They believe that in the future, there won’t be many Indians in Baltimore, and that people have lost interest in having a community, but they hope things get better. Lizzie advises people to find ways to have more fun.
